Merrill Lynch boss John Thain spent $1 million decorating his office. Haruka Nishimatsu, the president and CEO of Japan Air…buys his suits at a discount store, because a boss who wears Armani puts himself at arm’s length from his people.

If you watch the video [Flash-only warning], you’ll learn that the Japanese CEO of the 10th largest airline in the world also pays his pilots more than himself and takes the bus to work.

This absolutely blew me away. If you watch Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story,” you’ll learn that many pilots are severely underpaid and taken advantage of. I’ve flown on JAL and had one of the best experiences flying of my life. Their service is incredibly good, there are personal entertainment centers in coach, and even the food is good (as far as airlines go).

I’ve also flown across the Pacific on United Airlines and wouldn’t do it again if you paid me. The service was completely different than JAL and the overall experience was much worse. In a time when normal workers across the globe are hurting, I believe more CEOs, particularly in American businesses, need to start eating their own dog food. If they expect their employees to lose benefits, it infuriating to see them take bonuses on top of their millions-per-year salary.

If more companies were lead like JAL is, I believe this economic crisis would be much less severe.

The Audi R8 (GT5)

Since it’s blessed arrival from my parents-in-law on Christmas day, I’ve been playing a lot of Gran Turismo 5 - and really really enjoying it. Some people claim that the realism isn’t fun enough, but for a washed up car nut like myself, it’s fantastic! For me GT5 is all about collecting and driving cars I could never own in real life. As such, I’ve bought a Ferrari Italia, Lamborghini Gallardo, and happened to win an Audi R8 (I think I won it, at least). I quickly discovered that the Lambo had much more potential than the Ferrari and it became my main race winner for a while. You need one for the Lambo-only race and the later Gallardo-only race, so it’s a great buy. I maxed it out at 723 HP and lightened it all the way down to 1169 kg. So when I came across the R8, I thought it would be no match for my Lambo, but liked it enough to drop some cash on it. After a few engine upgrades I realized it was pushing over 600 HP, and getting dangerously close the the lighter Ferrari. I decided to take a peak at the Turbo options, which were out of reach for both the other cars. I saw that it was eligible for the High-end turbo and to my amazement, this pushed it over the 800 HP mark! I still had modifications available and this car was already my most powerful!

Amazingly, even with all that power, the Audi still out performed the Gallardo at breaking and cornering (I use medium racing slicks on both) and could reach a similar top speed with the standard gearbox. I have been truly surprised to see this little gem emerge and thought I’d share it with you in your racing endeavors :) Have fun!

Jackie Chan Hates Karate Kids

I have watched this 30 times and urinated in my pants during each viewing. 1:13-1:16 is pure comedy gold. Now I have to go buy new pants.

Lol. Very fitting for the World Cup. I always say “football” because that’s what the rest of the world uses.

Anyway, as you might have noticed there’s a brand new series of TopGear starting this Sunday on BBC2 at 8pm if you’re in Britain, or a few minutes after 9pm UK time if you’re one of those people abroad who cheekily downloads the show off some illegal BitTorrent website. Don’t look guilty and fiddle nervously with your mouse cable. We know what you’re up to…

This is so funny to me. Can’t wait to see Season 15 at 9pm UK time ;)
